Milna is small holiday settlement located in a beautiful bay, on the southern coast of the island of Vis, overlooking the horizons of the open sea. It is surrounded by beautiful, unspoiled nature, crystal clear sea, isolated islets and rocks and is blessed with several very beautiful beaches. The closest beach is a sandy beach in the bay itself, also called Milna. The nearby uninhabited islet of "Veli Budihovac" hosts two charming gravel beaches and many hidden bathing spots. And just 15 minutes of walk from Milna, one of the most beautiful sand beaches in Dalmatia is located, named Zaglav. Along the rocky coast that surrounds Milna there are many places convenient for bathing, and among these there are two small pebble beaches - one in Bargujac and one in bay of Milna itself.
This beautiful sand beach is located on the bottom of the Milna bay, on the south-eastern part of the island of Vis, just few hundred meters from the holiday settlement of Milna. This is probably the most suitable beach for children on the entire island of Vis, mainly because long shallow water that extends more than 30 metres from the coast, but also because of nice, fine, clean and soft sand. The beach is oriented towards east, and it receives the sunshine from early morning hours. There is no natural shade on the beach, but there is possibility of renting sun protection and beach chairs. The beach is very well protected from prevailing western summer winds. The beach is approximately 100 metres long, and it gets somewhat narrow on the western part, The beach is easily accessible by car, and it is located directly below the road. The parking is available in the vicinity. On the opposite side of the Milna bay, small pebble (gravel) beach is located, just 80 metres from sand beach in Milna bay. Both of these beaches do not have much to offer except for crystal clear sea, clean sand/gravel and beautiful views of the islets that stretch along the south-eastern coast of the island of Vis. Beaches in Milna bay are not too crowded even in the busiest summer months, and are used mostly by local population and visitors of Milna.
This beautiful sand beach is located just 20 minutes of walk through nature from Milna, in the direction of Rukavac (west). The beach is not accessible by car, but only with narrow paths that leads from Rukavac and Milna. Beach Zaglav is around 100 meters long and 10 meters wide. The beach is located in a wide and shallow bay, but it is well protected from prevailing summer western winds. The beach is oriented towards east, and it receives the sunshine from early morning hours until mid afternoon. Even though the beach is not easily accessible, it is among most popular beaches on the island of Vis, and it gets rather crowded in high summer season. In less busy parts of the year, it is not unusual to have the entire beach for oneself. On the beach there is not much tourist offer, except for a nice restaurant and a beach bar. There are lounge chairs and parasols available for rent, which is nice since there is not much natural shade there. The water is shallow and very suitable for children and for various games with ball. The sand is very fine and clean which makes Zaglav beach perfect for families with children. Upper part of the beach consist of some pebbles too, but the part closest to the sea and the sea floor is made out of sand. There are just few houses in the bay, where it is possible to rent private accommodation in holiday apartments. The water is perfectly clean and clear here, with sea currents constantly bringing fresh water from the open sea. Zaglav beach is located in beautiful, unspoiled natural surrounding, and is perfect destination for those that seek peace and tranquility.
Veli Budihovac is an islet located around 700 metres off the southern coast of the island of Vis, easily reachable by boat from Rukavac and Milna, and is probably the best destination on the entire island of Vis for one day excursion. Next to it, two small islets are located: Sanak and Mali Budihovac. On Veli Budihovac two beautiful pebble beaches are located: larger and more popular Zapadna plaža (western beach) and smaller Istočna plaža (eastern beach). There is a small restaurant on the island, with excellent offer of fresh fish and meat together with delicious naturally grown vegetables. The islet is popular destination for nautical tourist, and there are several berths in the bay where it is possible to anchor the boat. Up until recently, the islet was uninhabited, but nowadays it is home to one permanent resident, the owner of the restaurant. The larger, western beach is approximately 150 metres long and 15 metres wide, and it is made of medium size pebbles. There is not any shade on the beach and no tourist offer whatsoever, but visitors here can indulge in beautiful nature, crystal clear sea and beautiful views of the island Vis and Adriatic sea. Both beaches receive the sunshine during the entire day. Eastern beach is well protected from western winds but open to southern winds, while western beach is well shielded from all prevailing summer winds and it is very good anchorage point. The sea around the islet is very rich with underwater life and very interesting for snorkelling.
